The ArrowHead – Volume 2010 Issue 3
Word From The Lodge Advisor
Fellow Brothers,
Wow, what I have heard and seen, it was a fantastic Jamboree. So wish I could have gone this time but am
So glad so many of you got the chance to experience the once in a lifetime event. One hundred year birthdays
do not come around often. Glad to have you all back safe.
We have a new name to associate with the new council; “New Birth Of Freedom Council”. With that in mind,
now you youth need to put on the thinking caps and come up with a new name for the new Lodge. A form is
available on the lodge web site. Submissions need to be in to the lodge chief or adviser by the end of our Fall
Ordeal.
Start thinking about 2011 with National OA high adventure which the tradition continues in the summer
with the OA Trail Crew (OATC) at Philmont and OA Wilderness Voyage (OAWV) and OA Canadian Odyssey (OACO)
both at Northern Tier. Also for 2011 is the Summit Corps – The New River Experience – a hybrid of ArrowCorps5
and also Indian Summer in July. We are looking for interested youth and adults.
There is much going on within the lodge with the consolidation process, let’s all move ahead and together
to assist in making this a smooth transition. The leadership in both lodges has so much to offer to the new
and even improved lodge. Important events are right around the corner with the Fellowship weekend which
will host our first joint lodge meeting and then at Wizard Safari where we will hold the first election of new
officers to lead the new lodge. Please plan to attend these events, it is your responsibility to be there to assure
that the lodge will provide the ruling force and stability for its members.
This will be the last year for Tuckahoe Lodge 386 and I am sure you all would like to see us go out with
honors. Honors is what is so important, the Brotherhood Honor. There are so many that do not bind their ties
with the order. We have two Brotherhood conversions left. Please talk to your fellow Arrowmen and let them
know the importance of the honor. This is not just youth, this is directed to the adult members also. Let’s try
to achieve Quality Lodge for 2010.
Hope to see you at the Fall Ordeal this month.
Yours in Cheerful Service,
Jeff Richter, Tuckahoe Lodge Adviser

A Word From The Lodge Advisor
Fellow Brothers,
Here we are half way through the year. Wow, time passes us so quickly.
We had a fantastic Section Conclave, thanks Alex and Brian for all the hard work and planning. I also want to thank all the members who stepped up to help out and also those who joined the contingent. As I have always said, when many participate, there is only but a good time to have by all.
We are on the road to consolidation of our lodges. During the Conclave the youth officers had a joint meeting for the first time and much was discussed. There is much planning that still must be done. One very important task is the Lodges new name and totem. This is up to the youth members to produce a new name for the lodge. Any ideas must be forwarded onto the youth officers for consideration by the LEC. The name will be voted on at our first joint lodge meeting at the September Fellowship. We all have a part in this consolidation process, let’s make this a great adventure and keep the cheerful spirit of our brotherhood.
Please, renew your membership on time. This must be done to attend the Lodge events and appreciate the rewards of fellowship among arrowman. Membership is looking good but still not where it should be. If you know of a fellow arrowman within your unit that have not (ask if they have) renewed, please remind them to do so.
Remember, after your long and toilsome journey of selfless sacrifice to your units, you are ready to bind your ties in the Order Of The Arrow with Brotherhood membership. Conversion dates are held many times through the year to help satisfy your busy schedule. Please make it a point to attend one of the conversion dates coming up in July (7th & 21st), August 28th and November 27th.
We have our Fall Ordeal coming up real quick, do not forget to register and PLEASE register early. There are events coming up both in Tuckahoe Lodge and also Susquehannock Lodge. Please try and attend both to appreciate our new lodge brothers in fellowship and fun. We will all have much more responsibility next year with the service to two camps. Remember your purpose in the Order, Cheerful Service.
Get involved, attend your chapter meetings once a month, there is much happening in our chapters. Think about joining the ceremonies or dance teams, there is so much appreciation for the service you can do for others by assisting on these teams. If you have not been contacted after filling out a resource sheet, please let your lodge chief know of your interest.
We are half way through the year, lodge elections will be right around the corner. Contact me if you have an interest in running for an officer position so you may obtain a petition to fill out. Lodge elections will be held at the Wizard Safari, October 2, 2010 @ 3:00 in the afternoon. I need to have petitions in hand by the fellowship weekend in September. Please be in attendance even if you are not running.
Oh, remember when I said time was passing, well a few more minutes just went by, have you appreciated your family and friends lately?
I look forward to seeing all of you at the post-camp Ordeal in August.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Jeff Richter

A Word From The Lodge Advisor
Here we are in the beginning of a very eventful year. There is much to accomplish within our lodge and our soon to be consolidated lodges.
Yes, the consolidation was approved and we now go ahead with the union of two great lodges, Tuckahoe and Susquehannock will become one lodge before the end of this year.
I am very excited about this union in the fact that it can only benefit our two lodges with the resources available. There is much planning that must be done, this planning will be accomplished by our Lodge Executive Councils, lodge committees and of course, you the lodge members. We will all have a part in the consolidation process. Lets make this a great adventure and keep the cheerful spirit of our brotherhood.
This newsletter again will be published on the Lodge’s web site and would hope that all are welcome to the idea. To this point I have not heard of any negatives but then I have not heard of any positives. Please let any of the youth leadership or adult advisers know of your opinion. We are always looking to improve.
Not only do we have our normal events coming up but we have a Section NE-6B Conclave to host in May of 2010. With this conclave comes the need for volunteers, both for the participating contingent and also and especially for Conclave staff. It takes a lot of members both youth and adults to host an event of this size. Please register now to attend for proper planning. It will be a weekend of fun and fellowship.
Please, renew your membership on time. This must be done to attend the Lodge events and appreciate the rewards of fellowship among arrowman. If you know of fellow arrowman within your unit that have not (ask if they have) renewed, please remind them to do so. Any mailings going out will only see the 2010 members after this newsletter.
Besides all the extra events of the lodge, we still have our normal pre-camp Ordeal in April. All three Chapters are on the road of successful unit elections throughout the Council. For current Ordeal members (10 months or more), please look forward to sealing your ties in the Order Of The Arrow with Brotherhood Conversion. Take the time to evaluate your service to your unit. Brotherhood membership seals your ties in the Order and instills the obligation of cheerful service not only to your unit but also to the Lodge.
Please take the time to click through our Lodge web site. There is and will be a wealth of information. If anyone is unable to access the web site, all material found on the web site can be manually printed and sent to a member by contacting the Council office or by contacting a fellow arrowman.

I am excited to be working with our experienced lodge chief and his youth council this year. Please make it a point to go beyond the norm and remember why we exist. Support our youth leadership both in service and thought.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the pre-camp Ordeal and Section Conclave.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Jeff Richter
The ArrowHead – November 2009
A Word From The Lodge Advisor
Wow, a year has almost come and gone. Time flies when you are having fun. I hope this was the case with my fellow brothers. There was so much accomplished and so much more learned. I want to thank the youth leadership for a job well done. I want to thank the committees for all there input and service to both the Lodge and the Council.
This is the first newsletter published on the Lodge’s web site and would hope that all are welcome to the idea. It is different but a lot more effective and efficient. Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we had a year of learning. With this, we as a lodge are trying to improve one of the benefits to our Council is by instituting a lodge budget. This budget will be overseen by our youth leadership and their advisors. With this plan the hope to contribute more to the Boy Scout Program is evident.
Please, renew your membership on time, attend the Lodge events and appreciate the rewards of fellowship among arrowman. For the Ordeal members, please look forward to sealing your ties in the Order Of The Arrow with Brotherhood Conversion. This is not an event that happens just once a year, it is available four times through out the year. Take the time to evaluate your service to your unit and the lodge. Brotherhood membership seals your membership in the Order and instills the obligation of cheerful service not only to your unit but also to the Lodge.
Please take the time to click through our Lodge web site. There is and will be a wealth of information. If anyone is unable to access the web site, all material found on the web site can be manually printed and sent to a member by contacting the Council office.
By now I am sure you have all heard of the development of two committees to research the idea of consolidating both YAAC and KAC as one Council. With this consolidation of the two councils means the two Lodges (Susquehannock and Tuckahoe) must research the same consolidation. A study is currently in progress between our two great lodges.
With this research we have only seen benefits of this union with positive growth to the BSA and the Order Of The Arrow. We hope you will keep a positive attitude during this procedure and if you would need to, make your own study. If you would have any questions or concerns I would ask you to contact me immediately so that these thoughts may be discussed. Just remember to ask yourself this question; “Why do we exist?”
I look forward to seeing all of you at the annual dinner and our coming events.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Jeff Richter
